Rowan Greenwood is a senior operations, training and standards flight crew member, NAA regulator and senior manager with three decades experience in the UK and worldwide helicopter industry.
A former SAR commander with Bristow Helicopters Ltd operating on the UK HM Coastguard contract between 1989 - 2005, he also flew offshore oil and gas operations on the North Sea, in Nigeria and Mauritania plus military support operations in the Falkland Islands.
He was a TRI and TRE on the Bell 212 in Nigeria and the S61N in the UK rising to be the Bristow SAR Standards Manager.
Rowan then spent seven years as a Flight Operations (Training) Inspector with the UK Civil Aviation Authority responsible for the legal and safety oversight of UK helicopter AOCs including charter, offshore, HEMS, Police and SAR operators.
He chaired both the internal working group that developed and published CAP 999, UK Helicopter SAR National Approval Guidance, and the external steering committee comprised of the UK SAR operators, Bristow, Babcock (Bond) and CHC, plus stakeholders from the Maritime Coastguard Agency, Department for Transport, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and the ARCC to implement the document into the UK civil SAR framework.
As an EASA qualified simulator inspector he conducted initial and revalidation evaluations on SK92, AW139, EC135, SK61, B212, S-70 simulators in the UK, Brunei, Dubai, Qatar, US and Turkey.
In 2014 Rowan left the CAA to join Bristow Group Inc. as the Director, Global SAR Operations and supported the UK SAR Training Manager role during the contract work-up. He was responsible for SAR operations and standards across the UK, Norway, Nigeria, Australia, the US and Trinidad and Tobago.
Now the owner and Director of Airtight Aviation Services Ltd Rowan offers senior operations, training and management experience as an aviation consultant.
